For Kaden Gilbert, choosing the University of Nebraska at Kearney was an easy decision. The affordable campus offered him hands-on learning opportunities with smaller class sizes, making it the perfect place to pursue a degree in information technology and networking close to home.
UNK provided Gilbert with the ideal environment to grow both professionally and personally while earning a degree in a field that interested him. After graduating in May 2026, Gilbert says attending UNK is a decision he hasn’t regretted.
“I really enjoyed the opportunities to work with professional, knowledgeable faculty in a hands-on learning environment,” Gilbert said. “I would recommend UNK to anyone considering attending a four-year university.”
During his college experience, Gilbert received financial support from the UNK Fund – College of Business & Technology Student Scholarships.
The scholarship eased the financial stress of college and helped set him up for financial success after graduation.
“It helped me focus more on learning, growing and making the most of my time at UNK without being as worried about the overall cost,” Gilbert said.
The aid positioned Gilbert for success after graduation, allowing him to begin his career with stability.
Today, Gilbert is putting his degree into practice as a help desk technician at Southeast Community College in Lincoln. In his role, he hopes to improve the learning experiences of other students pursuing higher education.
Looking ahead, Gilbert hopes to continue building his career in higher education while expanding his expertise in information technology. He also is considering pursuing a graduate degree in business, cybersecurity, instructional technology or management information systems.
At the end of the day, Gilbert wants to see communities across Nebraska thrive.
“As a lifelong native of Nebraska, I hope to continue living in the place I’ve called home my whole life,” Gilbert said.
